‘Let Your Backbone Slide:’ Farley Flex shares his song story

The 1989 track “Let Your Backbone Slide” is a memorable song for many Canadians because it was the first time they heard the voice of Maestro Fresh Wes.

One of the first few people to hear this inspiring and unique combination of talent and rhythm was artist manager Farley Flex and now he’s sharing with us what happened after he listened to the track for the first time.

Last week, Flex told us about what he finds special about Maestro, saying, “[In the beginning,] we had a lot of road trips together where he would recite his rhymes to me.”

He continued, “I knew that he was prolific as a poet, in terms of delivery. [He had] the depth and the alliteration and all the key aspects that make poetry engaging and that’s when I fell in love with his capabilities.”
